Bushcraft

Bushcraft in Northamptonshire

Bushcraft is lots of things, but basically, it’s anything to do with surviving with less. Less equipment and tools, less technology. It originally came from the Australian term for wild country “the bush” and is about the skills and knowledge you would need to live in one of these, or other, wild, and remote areas. You do this by using skills and a set of primitive tools. Now real bushcraft skill is a lifelong journey. Anyone who has ever watched Ray Mears, Bear Grylls or Alone will know that even the pros would struggle with no equipment at all. To start off your journey you will need to dabble in some of the basic skills you might need, fire lighting, shelter building, knowledge of plants and animals.

How can we help?

We can help you by showing you the basics you need to delve into the world of bushcraft. Using a fire steel, different types of fire constructions, tree identification and some basic foraging. Learn how sometimes you need to simplify your life to come back and appreciate the complex world of gadgets and gizmos we now live in. Learn about yourself and whether you have the patience and character to challenge yourself against the great challenge of nature itself.

What do you need to bring?

Either before or when you arrive you (or a parent or guardian for those who are under 18) will need to fill out a consent form. Apart from that, we suggest you bring a full change of clothes including a change of shoes and a towel (although this is very unlikely to be needed for bushcraft). We can provide everything else for you.

Our real focus is on fun as we don’t believe learning is effective without it, hopefully, you will be grinning from ear to ear from the start to the finish of your session.
